Stevens: 'It was a team effort'

Sat, 26 Apr 2008 22:44

Matt Stevens praised the quality of Bath's all-round performance, following their convincing 36-14 European Challenge Cup semifinal triumph over Sale Sharks on Saturday.

The Bath prop produced a man of the match display against fellow England star Andrew Sheridan at the Recreation Ground.

But Stevens saluted his teammates, which sets up a Final showdown with Worcester Warriors on May 25.

Stevens said: "The boys played really well. We're really happy to get through to the final and now we've got the chance of picking up silverware.

"A lot of the boys could have received this award. I'm just taking the credit on behalf of them, he said.

"We try and get the ball in hand as much as we can and it was a great game for us.

"We've proved that we have the attacking prowess to finish games off. And we've also got the defence to shut them out.

"In the last four weeks we've improved in every match and we're reaching our peak at the right time of the season in all competitions."
