Henson charges withdrawn

Charges of disorderly conduct against Wales and Ospreys centre Gavin Henson have been withdrawn after prosecutors announced that there was "insufficient evidence to provide a realistic prospect of a conviction". The 25-year-old was due to appear in a Cardiff court on Monday after being accused of disorderly behaviour and threatening, abusive or insulting words likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress on December 2 last year. Henson was allegedly involved in a a drinking game, in which a forfeit was a swift punch to the face. The incident, which was firmley denied by Ospreys, happened a few hours after club's 19-8 win over Harlequins in their EDF Energy Cup clash last weekend - in which Henson scored all their points - and allegedly resulted in a broken hand bone for the centre. The decision means that Henson, who is expected to have made a full recovery before his club's Heinekin Cup clash with Gloucester on Saturday - just 48 hours before new Wales coach Warren Gatland announces his squad for the Six Nations - is now free for Wales selection for the upcoming competition on the same basis as any other player. Wales begin their Six Nations campaign away to England at Twickenham on February 2. AFP
