More sting to Wasps' pre-season

Wed, 16 Jul 2008 13:52

Having already confirmed a trip to Murrayfield to face Edinburgh in August, London Wasps will now travel to Dax and host Llanelli Scarlets at Adams Park as part of their pre-season schedule.

Kicking off the trio of games with a trip to the South West of France and home of London Wasps hooker Raphael Ibanez, Wasps will face Dax on August 14.

The following week Wasps will travel to the home of Scottish rugby to face fellow 2008/09 Heineken Cup Pool Two side, Edinburgh.

Andy Robinson's side will host the Guinness Premiership champions on the August 23, ahead of Wasps final pre-season fixture at Adams Park on Friday August 29.

The Friday fixture will see Llanelli Scarlets travel to High Wycombe to open proceedings on home turf. The two sides met twice last season in the Heineken Cup and Wasps will be eager to continue a winning run over their Welsh opponents.

London Wasps Director of Rugby Ian McGeechan was happy with what the pre-season would offer his team.

"We are delighted to add games against Dax and Llanelli to our pre-season programme," McGeechan said.

"These fixtures combined with our trip to Edinburgh provide us with valuable game time as part of our preparations for the new season.

"It's important to have some good challenging matches in the run up and I have no doubt these fixtures will offer us some great variety.

"With games both home and away supporters will also have a fantastic opportunity to warm up to the season and see some our new signings in action."

London Wasps pre-season schedule:
Thursday, August 14:
v Dax (Stade Maurice Boyau, Kick-off 21.30 - 19.30 GMT)
Saturday, August 23: v Edinburgh (Murrayfield, Kick-off 14.30  - 13.30 GMT)
Friday, August 29: v Llanelli Scarlets (Adams Park, 19.30 - 18.30 GMT)
