London Irish find Elvis

Thu, 07 Aug 2008 13:39

Powerful Samoan centre, Elvis Seveali'i, is set to strengthen the London Irish midfield in a recent move to the Exiles from the Sale Sharks.

The powerful 30-year-old has an impressive rugby résumé, and will no doubt add valuable depth and resource to the already staunch London Irish backline.

Born in Wellington in New Zealand where he grew up and learned his rugby, Seveali'i played for Wellington Under-19s and Under-21s as well as the National Provincial Championship (NPC) team. He has also been capped 15 times for Manu Samoa.

Seveali'i moved to the Northern Hemisphere in 2002 and played for Bath in 2002-03 before joining the Ospreys for two seasons. In 2005 he returned to England and played a key role in the Sale Sharks team that won the Guinness Premiership during the 2005-06 season.

"Elvis will enhance and add depth to our potent midfield," said London Irish head coach, Toby Booth, announcing the signing on Thursday.

"He shares the same work and playing ethos as Seilala Mapusua and brings valuable international and Premiership experience to us.

Elvis Seviali'i was excited about his move, where he will be joining forces with some old friends.

"I'm looking forward to playing for London Irish," Seviali said.

"Having played against the club, I like the style of rugby the team plays and I'm also looking forward to linking up with my friends Seilala Mapusua and Sailosi Tagicakibau," he added.
