Sale Sharks have announced that Juan Martin Fernandez Lobbe will be the new club captain of the Guinness Premiership outfit for the 2008/09 season.
Argentina international forward Lobbe was ecstatic about his appointment, and said that he was keen to emulate the success of those captains before him.
"I am delighted to be named as Captain of Sale Sharks. This is my third season here and to follow in the footsteps of Jason Robinson and Jason White is indeed a great honour," he said.
Director of rugby Philippe Saint Andre told salesharks.com that he was certain his newly appointed captain would do a great job leading his team.
"Juan is a great player and more importantly he is a great team player and I believe he will do a fantastic job leading the players and setting an example in his role as captain."
Chief executive officer James Jennings said: "The appointment of Juan Lobbe as captain is recognition of his great contribution last season, when he was probably our most consistent player.
"On the field he leads by example and has great tactical acumen which he acquired from his time at Sale Sharks and as an Argentine International.
"The appointment of Sebastian Chabal and Dean Schofield as vice-captains shows the strength in depth we have in natural rugby leaders and I am sure that they will also make a massive contribution to leading the team through next season.
"Jason White has been an exemplary captain and on behalf of the club I wish to thank him for his tremendous contribution both on and off the pitch.
"Over the last eighteen months Jason has struggled with several bad injuries, which particularly disrupted last season.
"Jason is now returning to full fitness and we hope that he will remain injury free this season in order that he can concentrate on his own rugby and be major part of our team."
