Saracens bring 'home' an Eagle

Tue, 26 Aug 2008 19:15

Fullback Chris Wyles has joined Saracens on secondment from United States of America (USA) Rugby for the 2008/09 Premiership season, which might feel more like "home" than his native USA.

Although Wyles was born in Stamford, Connecticut, the 24-year-old has English parents and went to school at Haileybury College, just a few miles from the Saracens training centre in Hatfield.

Nottingham University graduate Wyles is also no stranger to the Premiership, having enjoyed the 2006/07 season with the Northampton Saints.

Capped 10 times by the USA Eagles on the wing and at fullback, Wyles joins the Saracens squad on loan as USA looks to further develop and give more experience to the players within its national squad.

"Chris joins us on secondment from USA Rugby who are looking to develop their players," explained Saracens Director of Rugby Eddie Jones.

"He will also add further depth and competition to the Saracens squad so this will be a mutually beneficial agreement.

"Chris had a very good 2007 World Cup campaign in France and he is a player with a good kicking game and is strong in defence.

"Having been educated in Hertfordshire, he's also no stranger to the area and we're looking forward to him joining us for the start of the season," Jones added.
