Cipriani happy but also sad

Thu, 02 Oct 2008 08:46

Despite the fact that his London Wasps side ultimately lost the game on Wednesday, returning star, Danny Cipriani said he was pleased with his comeback.

The England flyhalf returned to action in Wasps Guinness Premiership Round Five match with Bath at Adams Park – six weeks ahead of schedule.

After their fantastic win last week at Welford Road the home side were desperate to keep the momentum going but in the end lost the game 23-27 with Bath earning a deserved win.

Cipriani had a rough start to the game, his error under the high ball led to a try for South African Michael Claasens but, all in all, showed some positive signs on his unexpected return.

"I was very happy to get through the match but disappointed we lost," said Cipriani.

"I was a bit rusty at first I made some mistakes, which I know I can eradicate after I've looked at the analysis.

"I thought my goal-kicking was good and I felt a bit more confident with my defence," he said.

Shaun Edwards withdrew his 20 year-old star just 10 minutes into the second half but the coach was seemingly pleased with his efforts on the night.

"He came through unscathed, got some tackles in, helped create a try for Riki Flutey and put some nice goal kicks over - even though one was disallowed," said Edwards.

The defeat to Bath is Wasps fourth of the early season and, while they will be glad to have their ace back in hand, they will also know full well that they need to return to winning ways sooner rather than later.

Bath moved up to the top of the log after their success on Wednesday while the side from Wycombe still find themselves in 10th place on the GP ladder.
