Cipriani: 'England can be world beaters'

Mon, 06 Oct 2008 10:05

Returning England star Danny Cipriani says the England national side are incredibly lucky with the strength in depth they currently have amongst their ranks.

Cipriani has only recently returned to action after a serious ankle injury but is therefore himself back in contention for the upcoming November tests, particularly considering the recent injury to number ten rival Jonny Wilkinson.

The Wasps star has already expressed his desire to do well for his club before focusing on England but did say that he was excited by the number of quality players that Martin Johnson would have available to him when he eventually did sit down to select his squad.

"I think any English fan undoubtedly knows that England could be up there with the best in the world again because there are two or three players in each position that could take us to being a world-class side again," said Cipriani.

"You've got a ridiculous number of back-row players and a whole heap of others that can take England forward.

"There's so much to choose from that if we get it right and get that structure in place England are going to be world beaters again."

The England national side currently sits fifth in the world rankings but have a chance to improve on that when they host tests against the Pacific Islands, Australia, South Africa and New Zealand in four consecutive weekends in November.
