Care tips teammate for England

Wed, 08 Oct 2008 15:47

Forget his own international ambitions, Quins star Danny Care says he would not be surprised if his exciting teammate Jordan Turner-Hall was not far from an England call-up sometime soon.

Having himself already been in such fine form this season Care has already been tipped to edge out rivals Harry Ellis and Peter Richards for a starting spot in Martin Johnson’s England squad.

The tenatious No.9 though says he is taking nothing for granted and is just making the most of his sides good form and the impressive performances of some of the talented players around him, including former England U-19 centre, Turner-Hall.

"I’m just enjoying playing and being in a winning team at the moment. There are some great players around us who are buzzing at the moment,” he said.

"Jordan Turner-Hall is playing awesome stuff at the moment and I would think should be pushing for an England spot and there are a few more players like that here.

"England is in the back of my mind at the moment, " admitted Care eventually.

"I want to be involved and want to play but there is some great competition in there from Harry and Peter so its is going to be tough, but is up to Johnno who he goes with."

Harlequins have enjoyed a fantastic start to the season and currently find themselves in fourth place on the Guinness Premiership log with three wins from their opening five fixtures.

Along with Care and Turner-Hall the Quins back row have also received rave reviews and former England Saxons star says it has all been thoroughly deserved.

"Tom [Guest] and Chris [Robshaw] just love having the ball in their hands. It is not just one game, it is week-in, week-out for them," he added.

"Our back row is probably the best aspect of our game. Tom, Chris, and Will [Skinner] give us go forward ball and that is what you need as a scrum-half."
