Sale's Thomas takes a hit this time

Tue, 14 Oct 2008 15:04

Sale centre Lee Thomas will be out of European and Premiership action until January next year after picking up an injury during the Sharks' Heineken Cup victory over Clermont at the weekend.

Thomas, who was injured in the 32-15 win at the Stade Marcel Michelin on Saturday, has been diagnosed with a severe and complex dislocation of the shoulder.

Lee will undergo surgery at the Alexandra Hospital in Cheadle. His recovery time is expected to be three months.

The 24-year-old Welshman joined the Sharks in 2006 from Cardiff Blues, and has already had limited game time this year due to a hefty ban slammed on him by the RFU.

During a match against Bath at Edgeley Park on March 28 this year, Thomas was alleged to have punched Shaun Berne, with the Australian centre losing three teeth in the process. Thomas subsequently faced a 14-week suspension.
