Test prop to become top-flight ref?

Fri, 03 Jul 2009 11:33

Recently retired Worcester Warriors prop forward Chris Horsman is considering taking up the whistle and trying his had at refereeing the game.

Horsman, 32, revealed to the Western Mail this week that he had already been in touch with top level referee official Ed Morrison about the possibility of him taking the steps to become a match official and that he believed he could add some real value in the role.

“I’ve spoken with Ed Morrison with a view to starting the referee's course and I’ll see where that takes me,” said Horsman.

“I think there is a need for international front row forwards to maybe step into refereeing.”

The Welsh international made 14 test appearances in his career but has suffered a number of serious injuries and health scares, including two cancer scares, in recent years and ultimately made the decision to call it time on his playing career just last week.
