Sharks keep talented young duo

Fri, 05 Feb 2010 13:26

Sale Sharks are delighted to announce that two of their young players, James Gaskell and Marc Jones, have signed extensions to their contracts.

James (19) has signed for a further two years which will keep him at the club at least until July 2013.

The England Under-20 stalwart can play at either flank or lock and will look to establish himself in the Sharks first team in seasons to come.

Gaskell said, "I'm very pleased to sign this contract extension, and want to build on what I've done this season at Sale Sharks. I aim to keep performing well for the first team."

Director of Rugby Kingsley Jones added, "James is a fantastic talent with huge potential. I didn't expect him to be where he is right now, but he's always been in my plans to give him first-team rugby.

"Every time he's taken the chance, he's made it very difficult to leave him out of the side.

"We're conscious of not pushing him too hard too soon; we'll keep working on his strengths and develop his natural talent."

Kingsley continued, "Marc has signed an extension to 2012.

"We were excited to have him as a young player. He's fully committed to the club and epitomises all we're about.

"He works hard and I'm sure he'll be a full Welsh international one day."

Marc Jones (22) plays at hooker, and was capped by Wales at Under 20 level.

Jones said, "Obviously, it's great to be signing and committing myself to the club for two more seasons.

"I've thoroughly enjoyed the five years I've been at the club.

"This will take me up to the age of 25. I really enjoy Manchester and love playing for Sale Sharks."
