Young Pirate jumps into the Bath

Wed, 07 May 2008 23:47

Bath Rugby have confirmed the signing of England Under-20 second row forward Scott Hobson from the Cornish Pirates.

Hobson is a product of St. Ives Community College and Truro College where he was a member of the South West Rugby Academy under the guidance of former England prop Robin Cowling.

He was a member of England Under-20s recent Six Nations squad and played in all of England's games in the Grand Slam winning campaign. He will link-up with fellow England U20 players Nathan Catt and Billy Moss when he joins Bath Rugby.

Despite only being 20, the lock has played in over 20 games for the Cornish Pirates in the last two seasons in National Division One, including playing against newly promoted Northampton Saints who will be back in the Guinness Premiership next season.

The signing of Hobson is the fourth recent signing confirming Bath Rugby's investment in its future following new contracts for Adrian Griffiths and James Currie and the signing of exciting young winger Rhys Crane.

Scott Hobson said: "It is a great opportunity for me to further my career by moving to a Premiership club. I am looking forward to the move and hope to make a good impression when I link-up with Bath."

Bath Rugby Academy Manager Frank Butler said: "Having known Scott from a young age I have followed his career with interest and watched him progress and develop playing for the Cornish Pirates in National Division One. I now feel it is time for him to move up a level and develop further at a Premiership club during an exciting time for Bath Rugby."
