Young's future maybe not so Blue?

Tue, 07 Oct 2008 15:23

With their Heineken Cup campaign just about to get underway Cardiff Blues boss Dai Young has admitted he unsure whether or not he has a long-term future with the club.

Young has a contract with the club until the end of the 2009/2010 season but, while he says he does intend to honour his current deal, the former Welsh captain confessed to not knowing whether he will still be the man needed to lead the Blues after it expires.

“The top and bottom of it is I feel, at that time, both myself and the club will be at a crossroads,

“I am certainly not saying there is not a future at the Blues for me after my contract ends.

“But, at the end of the day, the Blues and I have committed to each other for that period of time.

“Whatever happens this season, barring a disaster along the way, I will address the situation at Christmas next year.

“I will decide then where I feel my future lies, whether it would be right for me to stay on or look for another challenge in my coaching career.

“Come the end of next season, I will have been with the Blues for seven years. “When I took on the job I wanted to get the region back to where it should be – competitive.

“I think I have done that but it’s about taking them to the next level, where the club want to go and whether they want me.”

Young's side face Italian side Calvisano in their Heineken Cup opener on Saturday.
