Eyesore? The new Stade Francais playing strip
Stade Francais boss Max Guazzini has moved his team one step further into the realm of bizarre jerseys with the unveiling of their new strip.
Well known for their trademark pink jersey with fluorescent silver lighting bolts the latest design was supposedly inspired by American artist Andy Warhol.
The strip, which will be used throughout the 2008-2009 Heineken Cup campaign, will make its debut this weekend in Ulster.
Warhol, an eccentric artist and public figure, was best known for his 'pop art' as well as also being the first man to coin he phrase, "fifteen minutes of fame."
Guazzini is clearly, and perhaps unsurprisingly, a big fan of the man from Pittsburgh Pennsylvania and has honoured him with the new jersey's design being "in the fashion of Andy Warhol".
The jersey features multiple multi-coloured images of French heroine Blanche de Castille on the chest and torso while the sleeves are a metallic blue.
As one would expect the media have already labeled the strip rugby’s “worst-ever” design, but is really just the latest in a number of steps by Guazzini in his crusade to break down the traditional macho image of rugby.
The former radio station owner has previously made the headlines for producing a fairly outrageous calendar featuring his players in very little clothing, entitled “The Gods of Stade".
Unbelievably, when asked for his views on the newest team uniform, Argentine and Stade star Juan Martin Hernandez said: "I like it."
