Perpignan hooker Marius Tincu was facing an uncertain future after a hearing to consider his appeal against a four-month ban here on Wednesday broke-up without reaching a decision.
The disciplinary panel is now expected to deliver its verdict on Friday.
Tincu, a 30-year-old Romanian, was banned following French club Perpignan's 15-9 Heineken Cup win over Welsh side Ospreys after being found guilty of poking his fingers into the eyes of prop Paul James.
Tournament organisers European Rugby Cup (ERC) said in a statement on Wednesday: "The independent appeal committee, chaired by Rod McKenzie [Scotland] and also comprising Achille Reali [Italy] and Chris Quinlan [England], heard submissions made on behalf of Marius Tincu and ERC and have now retired to deliberate on the case.
"They intend to communicate their full decision to Marius Tincu and ERC by Friday, 14 November, 2008."
