Skrela aims for final redemption

Sun, 02 May 2010 17:38

French flyhalf David Skrela, who was instrumental in Toulouse's 26-16 win over reigning champions Leinster at the weekend, is determined to make it third time lucky when his team plays in the final in three weeks' time.

Toulouse have won Europe's most prized trophy, the Heineken Cup, three times before. However, Skrela was not a member of any of those teams - when the French giants won in 1996, 2003 and 2005.

"I'm very proud of this team, now we have the final to play in France," said Skrela, who kicked 21 of his team's points and scored one of their two tries.

"We deserve to be in the final," added the Les Bleus No.10. "I have played in two and lost both of them. I hope it'll be better this time."

Leinster coach Michael Cheika, who will move to France next season to take charge at Stade Français, said his side had fought as hard as they could.

"We felt like we'd built up the momentum," he said.

"We put everything on the line and physically we were good, taking it right to them, but you have to be accurate at this level.

"What killed us was possession. We let ball go too easily and probably kicked it away too much," concluded the Australian coach.
