Yachvili points the way ahead for Biarritz
Biarritz ace Dimitri Yachvili said the challenge of facing triple champions Toulouse in the Heineken Cup's landmark 15th final - at the Stade de France on Saturday, May 22 - gave his club the chance to create history.
Scrumhalf Yachvili became just the sixth player to break the 500-points barrier in the history of the Heineken Cup by scoring all 18 of his team's points - thanks to a 100 percent strike rate - in their 18-7 semifinal win over Munster on Sunday.
"Playing in an Heineken Cup Final is all the motivation we will need - we are 80 minutes away from something very big for Biarritz," Yachvili, the official Heineken Man of the Match, told ercrugby.com.
He added: "Since the defeat by Munster in the 2006 final our team has changed a lot but yes, we talked about that and we are very proud to have got it right this time.
"We knew if we won the forward fight we would win the match and that is what happened."
Sunday's semifinal encounter, at Estadio Anoeta in San Sebastian, was a hard-fought one; with the Men in Red - two times winners of the Heineken Cup - scoring the only try of the match.
"(But) we are also very proud to have beaten a great Munster team and as we did not do very well in the French championship we wanted to show we can do well in the Heineken Cup," said the former first-choice French scrumhalf.
"Today with Damien Traille out injured I had the added responsibility taking all the kicks and at half-time we talked about playing more of a kicking game to secure territory."
