Barnes for the Final

Wed, 05 May 2010 18:41

European Rugby Cup has appointed Wayne Barnes to referee the Final of the 15th Heineken Cup between Toulouse and Biarritz on 22 May at Stade de France. It will be his first Heineken Final.

Alain Rolland, who refereed the World Cup Final in 2007, will referee the Final of the Amlin Challenge Cup between Cardiff Blues and Toulon at the Stade Vélodrome in Marseille on Sunday, 23 May.

Barnes, a 30-year-old barrister turned full-time referee, has twice refereed quarterfinals of the Heineken Cup in 2008 and 2009.

In 2004 Rolland refereed the Final of the Heineken Cup.

Each of the referees in the Finals will have assistants from his own country.
