Treu building-up his young team

Thu, 18 Feb 2010 13:29

Paul Treu is please with the progress of the Springbok Sevens team, despite their disappointing results as defending champions of their IRB Sevens World Series.

Coach Paul Treu is satisfied with the progress the new-look team made during the most recent two tournaments in Wellington (NZ) and Las Vegas (USA).

"We're now where I wanted us to be after these two tournaments," Paul Treu said.

"The guys have started finding one another and now know what the IRB tournament is about."

Treu believes that some of the other sides have learned how to combat his sides game plan that was so successful last year, and the Boks are now playing a different game.

"There are people who'll say that we have failed this season," he said.

"But if you look at it, we've beaten every one of the top sides except New Zealand in the four tournaments."

The next tournament in the series is in Hong Kong on March 26-28 and Treu's will look to build on what has been achieved thus far with his young side.

"They've done well, but I'm bringing in more new guys for Hong Kong. We're giving the young stars a chance to see what they're capable of," Treu said.
