Green Point's pride: The new Cape Town Stadium

George could no longer be the host venue for the South African leg of the IRB World Sevens Series from next year.

The South African Rugby Union (SARU) have invited applications from all 14 provincial unions to be the host venue for the popular sevens tournament.

This year's event will be in George once again, as the city has a contract for the hosting rights that runs until the end of 2010.

South Africa already have the rights to host a leg of the IRB World Sevens Series as far as 2014, and will need to tie in a host for that period.

Given the growing popularity of sevens and the crowds that it is capable of attracting, there is likely to be any number unions likely to be interested; with a top host venue like the Cape Town Stadium possibly in contention.
