Floors to remain a Sevens Bok

Sun, 25 May 2008 23:21

Kabamba Floors will only join the Springbok 15-man code when he is needed.

Bok coach Peter de Villiers has given the national Sevens team the green light to use the loose forward in the International Rugby Board (IRB) Sevens World Series.

Floors is one of the key players for the Boks on the IRB circuit - which concludes when they Sevens circus move to Edinburgh this coming weekend.

"He is available to play for us in the IRB tournament in Edinburgh," the Bok sevens coach, Paul Treu, told the Afrikaans Sunday newspaper, Sondag.

The Edinburgh tournament will start on Saturday, 31 May.

That means that Floors will not join the Bok fifteen man squad with John Smit (captain, hooker), Victor Matfield (lock), Percy Montgomery (fullback) and Butch James (fly half) on Monday.

While Floors is playing Sevens rugby, De Villiers and his Bok 15-man squad already assembled in Somerset West to start their preparations for the first Test against Wales in Bloemfontein on 7 June.

And with loose forwards like Joe van Niekerk, Luke Watson, Pierre Spies, Ryan Kankowski and Juan Smith, one can understand why Floors will get a further chance to show his worth in the Sevens code.

Treu told Sondag: "They [Peter de Villiers] will only call on Kabamba when they need them."
