Savou keeps Fiji job ... for now

Thu, 17 Apr 2008 11:25

The Board of the Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) agreed on Thursday to retain the management of the Fiji team for the last two legs of the current International Rugby Board (IRB) Sevens World Series, despite the disappointing results so far.

This means that Fiji Sevens coach Jo Savou and manager Opetaia Ravai will take the team to London and Edinburgh - at the end of next month - to complete the 2007/08 series.

"This is the recommendation of the Games Committee, and it has been endorsed by the Board," chairman Keni Dakuidreketi said.

"We will assess the team and management fully on completion of the IRB Sevens Series."

The FRU Board also agreed that both management positions would be advertised after the team's return from Scotland in June.

"We want to make sure we put in place a strong management team for the 2008/09 IRB Series and for the Sevens World Cup next March," Dakuidreketi said.

The Fiji team currently lie in third place in the IRB Series, behind South Africa and New Zealand. The Kiwis are runaway leaders on 126 points, followed by SA on 92 and Fiji on 74.
