Ulster face Premiership battles

Wed, 02 Jul 2008 13:08

Ulster will kick off their 2008-09 pre-season with two home friendlies against English Premiership sides Bath and the Worcester Warriors in August.

Ulster will host Bath on Friday August 15 (kick-off 19.30 - 18.30 GMT), the side that finished third in the Guinness Premiership in May, as well as winning the European Challenge Cup - thus securing the club's place in the Heineken Cup.

With former Ulster captain Justin Harrison having recently moved to Bath, it will be interesting viewing to watch Harrison play against his former teammates.

The Bath side boasts British and Irish Lion lock Danny Grewcock as well as England stars Lee Mears and Matt Stevens and not forgetting South African flyhalf Butch James.

On Wednesday August 27 (kick-off 19.30 - 18.30 GMT), Mike Ruddock's Worcester Warriors will make their first visit to Ravenhill.

The ambitious side, captained by English back row forward Pat Sanderson, were defeated in the European Challenge Cup Final by Bath and will be out to prove themselves against Ulster.

With new signing Australian Chris Latham due to arrive in July, the Ulster supporters could be in for some world class action at Ravenhill.
