Champions get a taste of the Blues

Thu, 17 Jul 2008 23:47

Magners League champions Leinster will get a taste of the Blues when they start the defence of their title early in September.

Celtic Rugby have released details of fixtures of the 2008/09 Magners League season.

The season starts the weekend of September 5/6/7 with an intriguing tussle as the defending champions, Leinster, travel to Wales to play last season's runners-up Cardiff Blues.

Elsewhere European champions Munster visit Scotland's capital city to face Edinburgh, whilst the big game in Ireland sees EDF Energy Cup winners, Ospreys, visit Connacht.

The visit of Llanelli Scarlets to Ravenhill and Glasgow Warriors to Newport Gwent Dragons make up the rest of the fixtures for the opening round.

Once again 'local derbies' will be held over the Christmas/New Year period, whilst the season will conclude the weekend of May 16, in time to avoid any potential clash of dates with the opening fixture of the British and Irish Lions Tour to South Africa.
