Botha gets first Ravenhill roar

Tue, 02 Sep 2008 16:04

Ulster head coach Matt Williams has included Bok discard BJ Botha in his 22-man squad to take on the Llanelli Scarlets in Friday's Magners League opener at Ravenhill.

Botha will make his first start with new club Ulster this weekend, after training with the squad since Monday.

The World Cup winning tighthead prop, who was in Ulster three weeks ago to sign his three-year contract with the Irish outfit, was given an early release from his Sharks contract due to family reasons.

Friday's game will see Ulster start their Magners League campaign against their Welsh Heineken Cup pool challengers.

Matt Williams has named one of his strongest squads for the game, with the hope of kicking Ulster's Magners League campaign off in style.

Ulster Squad:

Forwards: Justin Fitzpatrick, Nigel Brady, Tom Court, Rory Best, Brendan Botha, Carlo Del Fava, Ed O'Donoghue, Ryan Caldwell, David Pollock, Matt McCullough, Kieron Dawson, Robbie Diack.

Backs: Isaac Boss, Paddy Wallace, Timoci Nagusa, Rob Dewey, Darren Cave, Andrew Trimble, Clinton Schisfoske, Cillian Willis, Niall O'Connor, Bryn Cunningham.

Date: Friday, September 5
Venue: Ravenhill, Belfast
Kick-off: 19.30 (18.30 GMT)
Referee: Peter Allan (Scotland)
Touch judges: David Keane (Ireland), Peter Haycock (Ireland)
