Welsh star set for November return

Mon, 06 Oct 2008 13:08

Despite reports that he had suffered a setback in his recovery from his cruciate knee ligament injury Welsh star Michael Phillips says he is hopeful of a return to action “in six or seven weeks.

The Ospreys No. 9 injured his knee in March of this year and had been expected to return in October but a November return seems now to be a more realistic target.

Both, Ospreys elite performance director, Andrew Hore and Phillips himself have denied that he will now require a second operation on the injury and say that his progress, while slow, is coming along.

Speaking to Scrum V Phillips said: "Hopefully I'll be back in six or seven weeks, something like that, so I'm being positive and looking forward to coming back,

"The knee hasn't been too good the last couple of weeks to be honest.

"But I've had a couple of weeks off the rehab, been told to slow my training down and relax a bit.

"I think I've been pushing it a bit too much the last couple of months... I just want to be out there playing, I'm dying to get back."

It seems certain now though that he will miss any possible action for the Welsh national side in their November test schedule but perhaps could return for his club once their Magners fixtures resume after the break.
