Welsh Strongman: Rhys Thomas
Newport-Gwent Dragons boss Paul Turner has admitted that he is unsure as to the future of his star Welsh tighthead prop, Rhys Thomas.
Thomas, whose contract is up for renewal at the end of the season, is a key part of the Dragons pack but is still yet to agree a new contract, despite the club reportedly lucrative offer.
With the Scarlets, as well as clubs from England and France, reportedly keen on the players signature, Turner admits he has no idea whether the 26 year-old will be at the club next year or not.
The rumour mill has in fact suggested that the reliable No.3 has already signed a deal with the Scarlets but neither he nor the club have made any statement confirming that their have been talks.
"He could have [already agreed a deal],” admitted Turner.
"If it’s happened, it’s happened.
"That’s the way rugby is, players come and go.
"We are talking to him, but, if we knew now he was going, at least it would give us time to recruit.
"It would be a pity because Rhys is a fine player and we would like to keep him at the Dragons.
"We have made every effort to keep him with us. If he leaves, it won’t be because of finance and lack of trying but because Rhys wants a change."
