Blues raid the Doncaster ranks

Wed, 30 Jun 2010 16:35

The Cardiff Blues have confirmed that they have acquired the services of two Welsh-born players from English club Doncaster.

The Welsh region, who is set to return for pre-season training next week, have signed Doncaster second row forward Bryn Griffiths and prop forward Tom Davies.

The two former Knights players return to their home country with the hope of achieving Magners League silverware and possible  national team call-ups.

Lock Griffiths is a former Wales Under-18 and Under-21 player, who has played for the Dragons and will provide cover in the second row, while prop Davies, a former pupil at Hallcross School, came through the system at Doncaster and has played for Wales Under-18.

Cardiff Blues Director of Rugby David Young admitted they are looking to add to their depth.

"With the World Cup fast approaching, many teams will have their squads stretched and Cardiff Blues are no different," Young said.

"We are glad to be able to strengthen our squad and bring Welsh talent back to Wales.

"I'm sure both Bryn and Tom will provide extra quality in depth in the front and second rows."

Having returned from their off-season break the players will be put through their paces by the Blues conditioning team.
