Aironi eager for tough Magners debut

Thu, 02 Sep 2010 17:00

This Saturday Aironi will make their Magners League debut when they take on Irish heavyweights Munster at Musgrave Park on Saturday.

At the end of this morning's training session Aironi’s coaching director Franco Bernini announced the team that will face Munster. The starting XV is very similar to the team which played against Northampton Saints last Friday in a pre-season match.

The four new faces in the side are the two wings, Giulio Rubini and Giulio Toniolatti replacing Demas and Venditti; while in the pack Alberto De Marchi takes the loosehead-prop position in place of Andrea De Marchi. Jaco Erasmus is the starting blindside flank instead of Cattina.

The front row is completed by Italian internationals Fabio Ongaro and Salvatore Perugini. Carlo Del Fava and Aironi’s skipper Quintin Geldenhuys form the second row. The back row is completed with Erasmus and Krause on the flanks, while former Munster player Nick Williams wears the No.8 shirt.

Tito Tebaldi and Ludovic Mercier start as the halfback combination, with the French flyhalf recovering from the ankle injury he suffered in Northampton. Des Fountain and Quartaroli play at centre while 12 times capped French International Julien Laharrague is the fullback.

Aironi: 15 Julien Laharrague, 14 Giulio Rubini, 13 Roberto Quartaroli, 12 Dylan Des Fountain, 11 Giulio Toniolatti, 10 Ludovic Mercier, 9 Tito Tebaldi, 8 Nick Williams, 7 Gareth Krause, 6 Jaco Erasmus, 5 Quintin Geldenhuys (captain), 4 Carlo Antonio Del Fava, 3 Salvatore Perugini, 2 Fabio Ongaro, 1 Alberto De Marchi.
Replacements: 16 Andrea De Marchi, 17 Roberto Santamaria, 18 Luigi Milani, 19 Marco Bortolami, 20 Aldo Birchall, 21 Michael Wilson, 22 Alberto Benettin, 23 Gabriel Pizarro.
