Some relief for the Ospreys

The Ospreys heard the outcome of their appeal against a Magners League fine and deduction of points, imposed on them in May 2010.
There were three charges against the Ospreys - having 16 men on the field against Leicester Tigers, playing an unregistered player in South African Ricky Januarie and then for not fulfilling their fixture against Ulster on the grounds that they were short on qualified front-row players.
The Ospreys were found guilty, fined £100 000 and were to have four points deducted at the start of the new season.
An independent Celtic Rugby Disciplinary Appeal Committee met in London on Tuesday, 7 September 2010 to consider an appeal by Ospreys against the four point penalty and the fine imposed on them by the independent Disciplinary Panel of May 2010 for breaching Tournament Rules and committing Misconduct.
Edwin Glasgow QC chaired the three-man Appeal Committee which also comprised Rob Flockhart (Scotland) and David Martin (Ireland).
The Appeal Committee reached the following decision:
* it upheld the £100,000 fine imposed on the Ospreys
* it suspended the four points deduction for two years (meaning that four points will be restored to the Ospreys’ Magners League total this season)
* it made an order for costs in favour of Celtic Rugby.
The Appeal Committee’s decision is final and there is no further right of appeal for either party.
