Laidlaw confirmed as Gloucester captain

The appointment of the 30-year-old, means that Laidlaw will have skippered both club and country in the same calendar year.

How capped 53 times by Scotland, the Edinburgh-born scrumhalf has quickly established himself as a firm favourite since moving south in 2014. In his 42 appearances in Cherry and White, he has accumulated 425 points.

He already, of course, skippered the side on occasion. However, he will now take over officially from Billy Twelvetrees as the official club captain.

Speaking to the club website today, Laidlaw admitted that the appointment is a real honour.

"I'm absolutely delighted to be named captain of such a great club. It's a real privilege and honour to be follow in the footsteps of so many great players at Gloucester, a club with so much heritage and history.

"Billy did a terrific job as captain and I'm delighted that he's still around, because having so many experienced senior pros in the squad makes the role a lot easier.

"The hard work for next season has already begun, and we're all hoping that it will be one to remember for everyone at Gloucester Rugby."
