George on the quest for the Double Double

INTERVIEW: Jamie George hopes Saracens can hit the ground running in the London Double Header in their quest to do the 'double double'.

Mark McCall's men won both the Premiership title and conquered Europe last term in a season that will go down in Saracens' folklore. But George is not keen to sit at home and polish his medals; he is targeting further success and believes Saracens must beat Worcester Warriors at Twickenham on day one to immediately get on track.

"We can't live the rest of our careers off the back of one season, it absolutely starts again," said the 25-year-old hooker.

"We are looking to do it again, it would be the ideal scenario, but a lot of hard work is needed to achieve that.

"We're in a good place, we have a good squad, a great coaching staff and we’re hoping we'll be able to do it again.

"The Premiership is so tough. You look at the standard of the teams and the signings they have made. You know it is going to be even tougher for us to win it again."

George was named among the replacements for May's Premiership Final with Exeter Chiefs. Two of his eight England caps have also been won while playing at Twickenham. But despite being no stranger to rugby HQ, George confesses he is as excited as ever.

"I think it’s the most special place to play rugby in the world," he added.

"It has an aura about it. As soon as you walk through those gates you instantly feel a sense of pride.

"There is so much history that has gone on at that stadium and I genuinely feel lucky to have played there a few times now and I'm looking forward to hopefully playing there again."

Though Worcester's task of toppling Saracens looks unenviable, they ruffled feathers on the opening weekend last season with victory over Northampton Saints and George anticipates that they can cause problems again, particularly with new signing Ben Te'o adding star quality in midfield.

"They are always a tough team and they have made some brilliant signings," said George.

"I think Ben Te'o is going to make a big difference to them. I worked with him a bit in the summer and he’s a hugely talented player and a very clever rugby player, someone who is going to add a lot to their attack and defence.

"They are going to be a tough team, but hopefully we can come out on top."
