NEWS: It may be a coincidence, but the change of Gloucester's logo coincides with the arrival of more of Johan Ackermann's former Lions players at the West Country club.

The Premiership side have undertaken a review of the clubs brand last year and the new crest has been given the thumbs up by the board.

However, one could not help notice the huge similarities between the new Gloucester's crest and Lions' crest.

The logo is a clear sign of the massive influence the South African Johan Ackermann has on the club.

Since his arrival, the coach managed to lure in his son, former Lions player, Ruan Ackermann to Gloucester, and recently confirmed the signing of injured Springbok flank Jaco Kriel.

There are also speculations that three additional Lions' players are set to join their former mentor at the Premiership.

And with an old familiar face at the helm and Gloucester's new crest, the South Africans will feel right at home.

"The Lion is a symbol that has been part of the Gloucester Rugby logo for some time.  The Lion is a symbol that is on the Gloucester City crest, the original badge Gloucester Rugby used before we had to develop a new logo in 2007 as we could not trademark the city crest," Gloucester CEO Stephen Vaughan explained.

"Those familiar will also know we have a bar just behind “The Shed”, called the Lion’s Den (the only original standing building on the Kingsholm site) and our mascot is a Lion called Kingsley so there has been a link with Lions for many years.

"However, as already stated we are not changing our name – we remain Gloucester Rugby,"
