Rennie pleased with 'confrontational' Warriors
In front of a capacity Scotstoun crowd, Lee Jones' late try and the boot of Finn Russell ensured that the Warriors exacted a degree of revenge on their cross-country rivals, leaving the 1872 Cup series at one-all – ahead of the final match of the season in April.
"We needed to get a result," said Rennie.
"We wanted to be a lot more direct, more confrontational and look after the ball a lot better than we did last week.
"For big chunks of the game, we did that well. We played in the right areas of the field and forced Edinburgh to play from far out."
By contrast to the free-flowing attacking rugby to which the Warrior Nation have become accustomed, it proved to be points accumulated from the tee that proved decisive, with Russell kicking four penalties to put his side in control.
The Warriors boss was satisfied with the choice of his players to take the points on offer.
"Clearly getting the win was key," he said.
"We blew a number of opportunities last week by being too loose with possession. It wasn't perfect, but I was really pleased with our attitude."
The game will perhaps live longest in the memory for an off-field incident, with the stadium being evacuated with two minutes of the first-half remaining.
Despite causing a half-hour break, however, Rennie refused to be drawn on the extent to which the event affected the game.
"It's hard to say," the coach said, adding: "It was the same for both sides. Because we went straight into half-time, it gave us a chance to talk about where we were and have an extra five minutes to warm up and get ready again.
"We knew it was our kick-off, and I thought we controlled things really well."
Next up for Rennie's side will be their first fixture of 2018, which will see the Warriors travel to Parma to face Zebre in a week's time.
Whilst the Italians have struggled in recent seasons, the Glasgow head coach believes they are a different side this season.
"They've been a far stronger performer this year," said Rennie.
"A number of sides have gone over there this year and stuttered. We're going to take a strong team over and it's important to go into the Six Nations period in a strong position."
* Meanwhile the Glasgow Warriors confirmed that an "isolated but contained incident" took place in the North Stand during the game against Edinburgh.
"This resulted in the Fire Services being called and the stadium being evacuated," the statement said.
"All supporters were brought back into the stadium safely after a short delay and the game resumed.
"Safety of our supporters is paramount and we'd like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding."
