French towns want slice of World Cup pie

Wed, 21 Nov 2007 13:07

Representatives from the ten cities towns that hosted matches during the World Cup in France have demanded a cut of the multi-million euro profits generated by the tournament. Bordeaux, Lens, Lyon, Marseille, Montpellier, Nantes, Paris, Saint-Denis, Saint-Etienne and Toulouse have all demanded the creation of a special fund from which the profits will be shared. "In the coming days the World Cup organising committee should announce a profit of over six million euros," a statement from the group said. "The ten cities are pleased with this outcome to which they largely contributed and demand that these profits result in the creation of a special fund managed in conjunction with the FFR (French Rugby Federation) and the government with the aim of giving a priority to channeling these funds into the development and practice of local rugby projects."
