Jake's book breaks records

Sat, 01 Dec 2007 11:09

It took less than a week for Jake White's autobiography, In Black and White, to break South African records for the sales of a rugby book. Springbok Saga and Rainbow Warrior, François Pienaar's biography, sold over 40,000 copies. The first print of White's autobiography sold out the first print of 60,000 copies in less than a week after it became available on 19 November. A second print of 70,000 copies was due on 1 December and another print is "under consideration", according to the publishers. The timing of the book, after the victorious World Cup and White's fights with SA Rugby, added to the controversy and gossip contained in the book, have clearly been good selling points. Whether it is a worthwhile exercise for rugby is another matter but it certainly is worth the financial while of White and his co-author Craig Ray.
