"It puts a target on my back and it is something they [opponents] are going to strive for," said Kok after his team's arrival in Dubai.

"They are going to look at videos and they are going to target me.

"Going into the tournament I am going to give it my all and focus on the small things just to be better than last year. I think playing with the guys will help me forget it and make me the better player again."

Kok said he quickly shifted his focus on making the Blitzboks squad after getting the award.

"It's something I put behind me the week afterwards because I knew the hard work had to be done and I still have to make the team for Dubai."

Despite all the praise and attention, Kok, 22, is determined to be an even better Sevens player in the future.

"The tournament [Dubai] is a big one – it's the first one of the year. There is expectations of me and the team for this tournament because we are defending champions and going into it it's exciting. It's the start of a new season and I can't wait," added Kok
