Early upsets at Singapore Sevens

The Blitzboks put up a clinical display to defeat Scotland in the opening game and went into halftime with a 14-0 lead after tries by Kwagga Smith and Tim Agaba, and a double by Sebelo Senatla marked his 50th try and sealed the 33-0 win for the South Africans.

The Singapore event is the eighth leg of the 10-tournament 2015/16 World SevensSeries.

Kenya scored three tries in their 21-7 win over Russia, with Humphrey Kayanga, Samuel Oliech and Willy Ambaka all crossing the whitewash.

The French were dominant and ran riot against second-placed New Zealand after scoring four five-pointers, with Julien Candelon scoring his 102nd World Sevens Series try. After being 19 points up with four minutes to go, Virimi Vakatawa put the Kiwis to bed with the last try of the match to triumph 24-0.

Madison Hughes opened the scoring for USA against Canada and the Eagles got the ball back quickly after the restart, with Perry Baker diving over for their second try soon afterwards. Zack Test stretched the Americans' lead with a quick try and Danny Barret and Nate Ebner also added their names to the try-scoring list, before Canada scored two quick fire tries to 14 points on the board and end the game on 36-14.

Argentina caused another upset when they beat Australia 12-7, scoring two tries to the Aussies' one converted five-pointer. Australia's Tom Kingston scored the first try of the match, before Javier Desio and Ramiro Finco responded with two tries of their own to hand Argentina the victory. 

Japan scored four tries to Wales' three to add to the Day One shockers, while Fiji suffered a 28-14 defeat to an in-form Samoa side. The log-leaders, Fiji, were 7-14 down at the break, and Samoa added two more tries with one answered by Fiji to bag an impressive 28-14 win.

England ran in two tries in their 14-7 victory over Portugal, who answered with one try, to round off the first eight matches of Day One.
