Murphy made his Springbok Sevens debut at the Hong Kong leg of the World Sevens Series, in a team that compromised of Academy players. His performance caught the eye of Neil Powell who then added him to the Singapore Sevens roster.
Possession is vitally important in the shorter format of the game and Murphy touched on retaining a restart which teams like Fiji and the United States of America are good at.
