Vakatawa committed to XVs and Sevens

He will continue to play both formats at international level having signed a contract with the French Rugby Union.

Vakatawa has produced some fantastic performances in both versions of the game in 2016 for France and he has a few big tournaments in his sight.

He is also expected to play an integral part in Guy Noves' French team for the upcoming Six Nations tournament.

"I thought a lot before signing. But I do not regret my choice. It works well," Vakatawa told rbs6nations.com.

"For me, it is comfortable to have time to rest, recover. The body needs rest to have energy.

"Now the work is carried out is harsh, and the fact of not playing in the Top 14 gives me time to prepare and keep the energy required."

Vakatawa is excited by the opportunities in the near future and, in the long-term, is targeting a place in France's World Cup squad.

"The goal of any French player is to wear the jersey of the France team," he said.

"So, I signed two more years with the FFR to prepare for the world championships [2018 Rugby World Cup Sevens] in San Francisco, the 2019 World Cup in Japan and the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.

"Maybe I will play a season or two in the club to prepare the World Cup and not lose the habits of the XV.

"But if everything goes well and the schedule is respected, I will be there to prepare for the 2020 Games.

"The Olympics I loved, and the Fiji victory for the gold medal too. But if I'm Fijian by birth, I remain French and that is to help the France team that I will work."
