Intimidating centre Mathieu Bastareaud has an injury that puts him in doubt for the Six Nations clash between France and Italy.
The 21-year-old was undergoing tests on a calf injury that may rule him out of coach Marc Lievremont's match-day squad.
Bastareaud, who has featured in all three of France's 2010 Six Nations matches injured himself in the gym training at the team's training centre.
Bastareaud's injury come as a second set-back to Lievremont's plans after versatile halfback Frederic Michalak was ruled out for the rest of the season after tearing his cruciate ligaments.
Biarritz's scrumhalf Dimitri Yachvili has been added to the French squad as a replacement for Michalak.
