Servat: We mustn't take Italy lightly

Fri, 12 Mar 2010 13:00

France hooker William Servat is not taking the Six Nations clash with Italy lightly and has warned his team-mates against underestimating their opposition.

France are favourites to win the Grand Slam this year having already recorded victories over Scotland, Ireland and Wales in the competition so far.

Although Italy are regular contenders for the Wooden Spoon, they beat Scotland 16-12 in their last match and have grown under their coach Nick Mallett.

Servat has alerted Les Bleus that they cannot afford to be overconfident against the Azzurri who are more than capable of spoiling the party for France in the Six Nations.

"They regularly beat Scotland and Wales," Servat told Virgin Media.

"They will come here to annoy us; they have really progressed.

"They're building themselves little by little in a professional world that doesn't give space to weakness.

"Even though the international results aren't yet at the level, I have seen them progressing for several years now."
