Ire v Scot: Scotland's player ratings
Sat, 20 Mar 2010 22:49
Dan Parks kicked a touchline penalty with just over a minute remaining to secure Scotland's first win of the season, in the final round of Six Nations action, as they edged Ireland 23-20 at Croke Park on Saturday.
Despite outscoring the Scots by two tries to one - wonderful efforts by Brian O'Driscoll and Tommy Bowe - the Irish were made to pay for their numerous errors.
The Scottish try by Johnnie Beattie was marvellous too, and Parks kicked five penalties, including the magnificent match-winning effort close to full time, plus a drop-goal to break the Irish hearts.
rugby365.com rates the Scottish players:
15 Hugo Southwell
Strong left boot was valuable - kicked a few vital relief kicks. Looked for work and got involved. Good skills.
8/10
14 Sean Lamont
Pity he didn't get more opportunities on attack - looked full of running and
troubled the Irish defence when he did get chances. Subbed after 73 minutes.
8/10
13 Nick De Luca
Supported well on attack and made nine tackles on defence. It's not easy to defend against O'Driscoll but he acquitted himself well.
7/10
12 Graeme Morrison
Close to being Man of the Match - a valuable contribution on attack, effective as a ball-carrier, and defended well too. A big role in setting up Beattie's try.
9/10
11 Max Evans
Not involved in the game as much as he'd have liked, but looked for work and showed glimpses of skill.
6/10
10 Dan Parks
Composure under pressure, astute decision-making and accurate goal-kicking boot made him the Man of the Match. He'll remember this game forever.
9/10
9 Chris Cusiter
Good service; looked quite sharp and
alert without setting the world on fire. Subbed in the 51st minute.
6/10
8 Johnnie Beattie
A massive performance - also close to being Man of the Match. His try was magnificent - he had a lot to do to finish and did it with aplomb. Made a whole host of tackles too. An impressive No.8 performance.
9/10
7 John Barclay
Effective for his workrate at breakdown and around the field and for his tackling as well.
8/10
6 Kelly Brown
Left the field for eight minutes and then 12 minutes but got through useful work when he was on the field. Worked well with Beattie and Barclay.
6/10
5 Alastair Kellock
Did a lot of useful 'donkey work' allowing other forwards to run around the field. Honest endeavour without being spectacular.
6/10
4 Jim Hamilton
Subbed in
the 52nd minute. Worked hard; fairly effective without being dominant in any way.
5/10
3 Euan Murray
Good in set pieces; high workrate away form scrums and line-outs too - but needs to stay calm and composed.
6/10
2 Ross Ford
Subbed in 71st minute. Got through a lot of work - including a few big tackles; great steal to start the movement leading to the only Scottish try
8/10
1 Allan Jacobsen
Subbed in 65th minute. Made useful contribution with his solid set piece play and efforts around the field.
7/10

High workrate, clearly determined to make an impact; one great steal which halted a wave of Irish attacks.

Much of a muchness as Cusiter - alert, quite sharp but no special impact.
