Germany win promotion

Mon, 28 Apr 2008 00:42

Germany beat the Netherlands 27-17 in Amsterdam on Saturday in a Division 2A match of the European Nations Cup.

The victory ensures that Germany will be promoted to Division 1 in place of the Czech Republic next season.

In fact the match was closer than the positions of the two teams suggests - Germany top and promoted, Netherlands bottom and demoted. The Dutch made the German invaders work hard. At half time the visitors led just 13-12. Flyhalf Fedde Lingsma scored a try in the second half which gave his side a 17-16 lead but the Germans ended stronger.
