After a slow start, the Kings dominated the majority of the first half with a sustained period of attack and holding onto possession.

However, the Eagles managed to take the lead with try as the half-time whistle blew.

Leegan Moos gave the Eagles the lead with an early penalty.Kings squeak past Eagles

On the 10-minute mark Michael Makashe went over for the opening try, after the Kings worked the ball through the phases and maintained possession. Elgar Watts was wide of the mark with his conversion attempt, but the Kings had a 5-3 lead.

Moos missed his second penalty attempt, before regaining the lead with his third shot at goal just short of the quarter mark – 6-5.

On the half-hour mark the Kings were rewarded for their scrum dominance with a penalty try and this time Watts was on target – 12-6.

Kings Hooker Edgar Marutlulle also left the field with a knock to the head, with the Eagles applying great pressure before No.8 Christo du Plessis powered his way going over for the home team's only try.

The Moos conversion made it 13-12 at the half-time break.

It took the Kings 20 minutes to break the shackles, but a Jurgen Visser try and conversion by Theuns Kotze saw the Kings take a 19-13 lead.

Moos narrowed the gap to three points (16-13) in the 73rd minute, but Kotze sealed the win with a penalty three minutes from time – 22-16.
