Creevy: This is our moment

The Jaguares arrived in Cape Town this week ahead of their first pre-season tour game against the Stormers at Newlands on Saturday.

A number of players in the current Jaguares squad played for the Pampas XV that took part in South Africa's developmental competition, the Vodacom Cup, between 2010 and 2013. They have since progressed together to the Argentine national team, with the current crop being considered by many as the best Pumas side ever.

However, it is the Jaguares' inclusion in Super Rugby which seems to be the pinnacle for many in the team, especially for captain Agustin Creevy.

"The Vodacom Cup was incredible for us," said Creevy. "Most of the current Jaguares team played for the Pampas, then the Pumas and now Creevy: This is our momentwe are playing in Super Rugby. We know each other, we played a lot together over the years and now I think it is our moment.

"To play in Super Rugby is a dream of mine. This is a very important moment for us."

Many pundits feel the Jaguares got a good shot at winning the Super Rugby title this year because of their array of World Cup stars, which includes Creevy, star wing Santiago Cordero, flank Juan Manuel Leguizamón and flyhalf Nicolás Sánchez. However, Creevy says they are not going to get caught up in all the attention

"We are very happy to hear that, but we are focussing on our own game and we don't think about that," said Creevy.

"We are going step by step. There are a lot of good teams and it is our first year in Super Rugby and we need to get used to the travelling and everything else. The other teams play very well and it is going to be difficult."

Creevy said the Pumas' win over South Africa in Durban in the Rugby Championship last year was a momentous occasion for the country and a big confidence booster as it proved that they can compete with the best in the world.

It has also given them confidence going into this year's Super Rugby competition.

Creevy: This is our moment"South Africa is a great team. We learn a lot when we play them.

"We beat them last season because our mentality was excellent and good. That win was really important for us because in that moment we thought we could win the World Cup. It was a breakthrough."

The Pumas performances in the Rugby Championship and the World Cup last year showed that they are also embracing a new attacking mindset, which Creevy attributes to coaches Daniel Hourcade and Raul Perez. The latter is currently the head coach of the Jaguares, while the former is the head coach of the national team.

"Daniel Hourcade and Raul Perez changed our mentality. Before it was a lot of defence and not much attack, but now we want to play with the ball – the Super Rugby style.

When we started to play against South Africa, Australia and New Zealand our level started to go up really quickly and now with Super Rugby we are going to go up even more," Creevy added.
