Fleck: Our tails are up again

It was the Stormers' first win in month after losses to the Waratahs and Bulls and a disappointing draw with the Sunwolves. The win also saw the Cape franchise regain top spot in Africa Conference One ahead of the Bulls, who were taken apart by the Lions this weekend.

"It's a win – that's the most important thing," said Fleck after the match.

"It's been a tough couple of weeks for us and we probably lost a bit of confidence in the squad.

"It was a good week in terms of our prep again and the guys were keen just to get going again. This win was massively important for us.

"Going into this June break with a loss or a draw would have been hard to swallow. The win was important – our tails are up again, the juices are flowing again so we can sing our song and have a beer."

The Cheetahs made life tough for the Stormers throughout the match and were a whisker away from getting a try, which could Fleck: Our tails are up againhave seen the Stormers walk away with just two points for draw.

"The Cheetahs are always a difficult side to play.

"They contested well at the line-outs. They went hard at the scrums and hard at the breakdown. They always look for that opportune tries.

"Credit to them they were getting in-between us. For us to be able to stop them at the end there is a credit. We had to defend hard, especially those mauls," Fleck added.

Meanwhile, Fleck said fullback Cheslin Kolbe will be monitored closely following an ugly knock to the head he received in the second half.

The 22-year-old had to be taken off with a stretcher, with replacement scrumhalf Louis Schreuder taking over the fullback duties for the rest of the match.

"He [Kolbe] got knocked out cold so he is going to be assessed again by the medical staff," said Fleck.

"It looked pretty bad, but he seems to be alright now. He is a key player for us and it did disrupt a lot of things for us. We were at a situation where we had to play a No.9 at fullback… There were a lot of complications, but again the players stuck to it and we got the win in the end."
