Brumbies' season on the line

The Brumbies are competing with fellow Aussie side, the Waratahs, for the final spot in this year's quarterfinals and Ah Wong knows that their encounter with the Western Force is essentially a knockout match for them.

The Waratahs will be travelling to Auckland to face the Blues in their final league game on Friday.

"It is a very important game for the team," said Ah Wong. "Our season is on the line and all our focus is on Saturday night.

"We are expecting a very tough challenge. It is their last game of the season and potentially ours as well if we do not turn up.

"We are expecting them to come out with full force and they will be trying to end their season on a high."

With wing Joe Tomane being ruled out for the rest of the season with a fractured leg, Ah Wong is looking forward to building on his form against the Force and potentially in the play-offs as well.

"It is a big loss losing a player like Joe – he is a very experienced and very good player," said Ah Wong.

"It does potentially open up an opportunity for me. I will just be looking to perform well in training, so that I hopefully I get a nod for Saturday.

"With injuries like that is never good news – Joe is the type of person who keeps the spirits up and he has a lot of faith in himself to recover quickly and he has faith in the boys to get the job done."

Meanwhile, prop Ruan Smith could potentially earn his 50t cap for the Brumbies if he is selected for the Force game. The South African-born player has been with the Brumbies since 2013 after joining from the Western Force.

"Hopefully I am in that team again to get that 50th cap. I think it is my fourth season here now and it has gone pretty quick.

"We had a tough run last week [against the Blues]. I'm sure we can turn that around, look forward, and try to make the finals as it was our goal at the start of the season," said Smith.
