Besides Orie, the Lions have also signed Western Province prop Sithembiso Sithole, Border prop Johannes Jonker, University of Johannesburg wing Aphiwe Dyantyi and Raiders Rugby Club wing Dean Gordon.

At Under-21 level, the Golden Lions have bolstered their stocks by raiding Western Province's ranks with the signings of Ruan Britz (hooker), Nyasha Tarusenga (flank), Cyprian Nkomo (wing) and Jaco Willemse (lock). They have also signed U21 prop Bheki Shongwe from the Leopards.

Tarusenga and Willemse represented Western Province in the recent SA Rugby Under-21 Championship Final, which the Cape side lost 34-38 to the Golden Lions over the weekend.

Meanwhile, there are seven senior players leaving the team in the form of Marnitz Boshoff (Pro12 champions Connacht), Martin Muller, Luvuyiso Lusaseni, John-Wessel Bell, Stephan de Wit, Ruaan Lerm and Ramone Samuels.

De Wit and Samuels will join Western Province and Lerm will join the Pumas and play for the Southern Kings in Super Rugby, while Muller is heading overseas.

"I would like to express gratitude to the players leaving us, for giving 100 percent of their efforts to the game, the team and the organisation," said Rudolph Straeuli, Chief Executive Officer of the Golden Lions Rugby Union
